01 Jan 5 Essential New Years Resolutions for Job Seekers
New Years Resolutions aren’t cliché when it comes to planning your future. Over the holidays we have time to reflect on the previous year and become very eager to shed bad habits and make changes. If you are serious about finding your dream job in 2018, here are some great resolutions to keep.
- Make a Plan
Once you have determined your yearly career goals, you need to make a plan. This usually starts with the beginning – your resume and cover letter. Update and create multiple versions of both resume and cover letters to be prepared when the dream job appears. Next, Make a list of companies you want to target or research more, set realistic job-searching goals. Starting with a good base can only help you succeed.
- Take your Dreams Seriously
This is entirely an internal goal. You need to figure out if you are happy with your current career path – ask yourself, do you want to continue on the same path or make a change? This must be realistic for your family, your budget and in some cases, your age. Zero in on what makes you happy and go move forward with that.
- Update Online Profiles
Don’t take LinkedIn or other job search website profiles for granted. Recruiters or individuals in your desired field will search for candidates if you have a properly updated profile available. Take the time and use the free tools at your disposal.
- Go Networking Crazy
Some of the best candidates come entirely through referrals; it is ultimately who you know. Make an effort to put yourself out there, attend local networking events – build the relationships, add them to social media platforms to keep up to date on other opportunities and stay in touch.
- Remain Positive
It’s easy to become discouraged when it takes longer then you’d like to find a job but becoming negative can only make things worse. Keep the momentum and enthusiasm going throughout your search which will, in turn, make you a more appealing candidate.
Make 2018 the year for your career goals to take precedence. Follow these steps, and you’ll begin to make the changes you are striving for.
